Nine Noble Houses fight for control of the mythical land of Westeros. Friction between the houses leads to full-scale war. All while a very ancient evil awakens in the farthest north. Amidst the war, a neglected military order of misfits, the Night's Watch, is all that stands between the realms of men and the icy undead of beyond.
The epic TV series is roughly based on fantasy writer George R.R. Martin's epos "A Song of Ice and Fire". Mainly set on the western continent Westeros, across the Narrow Sea, we find the eastern continent Essos, once the home of the fire-breathing dragons.
The principal storylines are a total of three that grow more interwoven as the TV series progresses. First is the civil war in Westeros. All the families are not fighting for control of the continent, as some are urging for independence.
Far up in the north of Westeros, we find the Night's Watch. A neglected brigade of guards on the immense wall of ice that separates the rest of Westeros from the Land of Always Winter where only a small number of free folk live and strange creatures dwell.
However, the most appreciated story in the whole series is that of Daenerys Targaryen. An exiled princess of the Targaryen family, she is residing across the sea from Westeros in the east. Her brother Viserys trades her marriage to the Dothraki horse-lord Khal Drogo for his forces to join him in invading Westeros and taking the Throne. On the wedding day, she is gifted with three dragon eggs which makes her the mother of dragons. Daenerys is initially terrified of Khal Drogo and the customs of the Dothraki, but eventually, the marriage ends up a happy one throughout their adventure to Westeros.
As you probably know, the HBO original TV series left a crater in the TV world all over the world. From the first episode, viewers were enthralled as no fantasy series could ever compare to the budget, first-rate production, or the dozens and dozens of complex and deep characters. With over 50 main characters during the shows run, it is amazing how the
crew of writers ties it all together so beautifully. Author of the novel series George R.R. Martin is credited to writing a bunch of episodes himself, as he is also a veteran writer for the big screen.
When the show ended, fans were craving for more of the "Game of Thrones" saga.
